10 Girl Scouts Reach Gold Award Accomplishment |

| This year, Girl Scouts – Western Oklahoma, Inc. honored 10 young women who attained the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest and most prestigious award a girl can earn in Girl Scouting. Achievement of this national award signifies outstanding accomplishments in areas of leadership, community service, career planning and personal development.
“The outstanding young women who have earned this high achievement have accomplished more than receiving an award,” said Cathy Stackpole, CEO for GS-West. “They have changed their communities and they have touched the lives of others. That is why they are all so deserving the Girl Scout Gold Award, and we are extremely proud of everything that each have accomplished and are happy to recognize them with this award.”
This year’s Gold Award recipients are:
Robin Fannon, Troop 297
Robin is the daughter of Shansea Stanfield and Bobby Fannon. She worked with fellow Girl Scout Kaye Gee to clean up the Del City Dog Park and created an information board for the Dog Park Association to post information in regards to dog health and general information about the Dog Park. Robin attends Lexington High School.
Kaye Gee, Troop 297
Kaye is the daughter of Jeff and Peggy Gee. Kaye worked with fellow Girl Scout Robin Fannon to clean up the Del City Dog Park and created an information board for the Dog Park Association to post information in regards to dog health and general information about the Dog Park. Kaye attends Del City High School.
Miranda Hanson, Troop 579
Miranda is the daughter of Noreen and Michael Hanson. She worked with fellow Girl Scouts Katherine Heinze to create a Centennial Garden at Hafer Park in Edmond to commemorate the state centennial as well as create a place for peace and relaxation for the community. She also created a coloring book for children to become more aware of the things that are found in nature to increase interest in gardening. Miranda attends Edmond North High School.
Katherine Heinze, Troop 579
Katherine is the daughter of Jim and Dana Heinze. She worked with fellow Girl Scout Miranda Hanson to create the Centennial Garden for Hafer Park in Edmond to celebrate the State Centennial. The garden was created to allow the community to take time to slow down and celebrate Oklahoma. She also helped create a coloring book for children to increase interest in gardening. Katherine attends Edmond Memorial High School.
Elizabeth Hess, Troop 923
Elizabeth is the daughter of Timothy and Teresa Hess. Her project, called “A Blanket of My Own”, created fleece blankets and pillows for the YWCA shelter closet to be distributed to abused women and children. She also developed a handout for Girl Scout leaders describing the YWCA and how to make the pillows and blankets for future use. Elizabeth attends Enid High School.
Miranda Jackson, Troop 346
Miranda is the daughter of David and Kimberly Jackson. Her project included the cleaning up and renovation of the outdoor chapel at St. John’s Episcopal Church. The renovation included the removal of 3,200 pounds of broken benches, tree trimmings and the removal of debris and asphalt, as well as the construction and installation of 32 benches, a concrete brick isle and the final touch of a hanging cross. Miranda is a student at Bishop McGuiness High School.
Ashlee Merritt, Troop 173
Ashlee is the daughter of Otis and Barbara Merritt. Her project, called “Books and Bookmarks for Love,” Included creating a library of over 400 books for the Women’s Services and Family Resource Center and created over 500 bookmarks for her church to be included with Bibles and hymnals. Ashlee is a student at Chickasha High School.
Leshia Nutt, Troop 418
Leshia is the daughter of Ricky and Lora Nutt. Her project involved creating a Co-Op performance for Village Christian Home School and a place for the other home schooled students to showcase all of the hard work that they have done throughout the year for their families and friends. Leshia attends Faith Christian Home School of Oklahoma City.
Kristina Stephens, Troop 969
Kristina is the daughter of Rusty and Michelle Stephens. Her project was to get residents at a local nursing home more in touch with their five senses. She included the preparation of a traditional Irish meal and the application of the same Irish theme to create crafts and become more familiar with their attuned to their five senses in the process. Kristina attends Alva High School.
Cassie Towns, Troop 361
Cassie is the daughter of Bill and Terry Taylor. Cassie’s project, called “Just for You” was to create packages for children who have been taken from their homes by DHS. The packages were created and separated by age group and created something for the children that were their very own. Cassie attends Putnam City High School.
