Here are some Frequently Asked Questions!

1) How are girls placed?
Typically, girls are placed in troops based on their school’s location or neighborhood of residence. The availability of troops is determined by the numbers of volunteer leaders in the area. If a troop is not available for your daughter, she may register independently for Girl Scout programs and events.
Other membership options:

  • Juliettes

  • Girls whose troop has disbanded, etc.
  • Girls recruited through girl-to-girl recruitment programs
Girls pay $12 annual membership fee and become a member of Girl Scout Connections Group. The cost covers the annual membership fee and includes an age level pin. As a member of Girl Scout Connections, the program will include:
  • Quarterly mailing, including welcome packet
  • Family events — kickoff, Frontier City, etc.
  • Labyrinth Walk, attend as a family
  • Cookie Rally — for Brownie, Junior — volunteers will supervise or one family member may accompany
  • Cookie Sales

You Can Be A Girl Scout Juliette
A Juliette Girl Scout is for girls in kindergarten—12th grade who are registered individually as a Girl Scout. You might want to be a Juliette because you can do Girl Scouting on your own time when it is convenient for you! Or, you might hang out as a Juliette until you wait to be placed in a Girl Scout troop or group. The key—YOU DECIDE! As a Juliette, you are one of more than 5000 girls in GS-West councill; you are also a member of Girl Scouts of the U.S.A.

As a Juliette you can:
  • Go to all the cool council and service unit events.Complete Girl Scout activities at home on your own.Participate in any council sponsored product sale. For example, you can earn your way to summer fun by selling Girl Scout Cookies.
  • Attend summer camp!
Girl Scouts-Western Oklahoma, Inc. sponsors Juliettes and will make sure you receive the information you need. Just call the Program Specialist at the Girl Scout Service Center any time you have a question about Girl Scouting! You and your adult “leaders” are “in charge” of your Girl Scout experience.

Girl Scouting in the School Day
Girl Scouting in the School Day is a national project that enables female students from kindergarten through high school to participate in Girl Scout activities and events. Educators, too, can benefit from Girl Scouting in the School Day as they use Girl Scout resources to enhance curriculum.

Programs and information through Girl Scouts are available in Language Arts, Social Studies, Science & Math, Health, Physical Education, The Arts and Girl Scouting.

For more information on Girl Scouting in the School Day, call the GS-West office at 800-698-0022.

2) What does it cost?
Costs are low and financial aid is available to all girls and adults. Girls pay annual national membership dues of $10. Girls and troops/groups earn money for activities through dues, a fall product sale and the annual Girl Scout Cookie Sale.
