Training FAQs
Who can register for training?
Members of Girl Scouts who are at least age 18, working in a volunteer capacity with a troop/group, or in programs/events involving Girl Scouts may register for council training courses. Girl Scouts 11-17 acting in a leadership capacity (Program Aides, Leaders-in-training, Counselors-in-training) may attend certain courses.

How to register?
Complete the “Training Registration Form”. Out of courtesy to our volunteer trainers, we ask you to register for any course at least one week in advance. Mail or deliver the registration form to the service center prior to the deadline date. All training sessions require pre-registration. Be certain to mark the registration form with the course level you need. Trainers are assigned to courses based on the needs of the registrants.

Each registration form must include payment, a training deposit or fee for training. A $10 refundable deposit is charged for each course that does not require a fee. Participants will receive a $10 voucher when attending the training. Refunds will not be issued for “no shows.” Vouchers are accepted as cash at GS-West and may be used for any shop item, book, event or used towards the next training course. Participants can also request a $10 refund check at any time during the fiscal year by completing a check request form and attaching the voucher. Vouchers expire July 1 of each year. If the participant does not attend or fails to cancel in advance, the scheduled course the deposit will not be refunded.

Who are the trainers?
Trainers are volunteers. Many are troop/group leaders or hold other volunteer positions within the council. Leadership and outdoor trainers are required to attend a Train the Trainer course and serve an apprenticeship. First-Aid trainers are certified through the American Red Cross. All trainers maintain extensive resource supplies and have many talents and skills that make them very effective in their roles.
