Girl Scouts-Western Oklahoma, Inc. -- New Beginnings
Only infrequently in life do we have the opportunity to reinvent ourselves, to have a fresh start, to fix those things that have been not quite right and to recreate the world around us. BUT, IN GIRL SCOUTS, WE NOW HAVE THAT CHANCE. Our new Council, Girl Scouts- Western Oklahoma, Inc. has been given that gift because of our merger on March 1. Two Girl Scout Council’s are now one… with the strengths and passions of each of the former Councils, we will be successful by serving girls well- very well.
Much work has been done to complete the merger- and yet much work still lies ahead. But what more worthwhile endeavor can we embark upon than having an impact, a large impact, on the lives of the girls we serve? We live in a culture that desires everything instantaneously- from our oatmeal, to the news, to light at the flick of a switch. But we know that it takes time, patience and just plan old hard work to build something new upon the past. And we WILL.
The 21st Century world we live in is far different than that of the world in which Juliette Low founded our organization. Or is it really? Yes, the world was different in 1912, there were no televisions or ipods, no internet, no frozen foods, no drive-thru windows and certainly no Starbucks!! But the values this organization was based on are still the same—the values found in our Promise and Law have not changed. We still desire to instill the young women in our organization with the highest ideals of patriotism, character and conduct that Mrs. Low outlined those 96 years ago. With these timeless values to guide us in the months ahead, we cannot go wrong.
